As a newbie reviewer who is very passionate about great food and drink, I did not hesitate to follow my first task to “The Coffee Club”, one of the famous café-bar-restaurant chains you can find in Chiang Mai city. The Coffee Club has such a good reputation for its great food, beverages and service. It is originally from Australia and now has more than a hundred branches in many countries; with 12 branches in Thailand including the newly opened one here in Chiang Mai city.
The Coffee Club is situated right in the center of Chiang Mai city, on the great location of Ratchadamnoen Road. It’s right on the corner of Hotel M which is situated right next to Thapae gate. Of course, 90 percent of the customers are foreigners but I could still see some Thai people enjoy this cozy, yet lively coffee shop and restaurant in this part of town.
Once I got inside, I could truly feel a very nice atmosphere. The place is decorated neatly and professionally in modern style with ablack, white and red theme. With the neat and modern furniture placed not too packed together, the place really gives such a cozy and relaxing feeling. If you are a big fan of looking at cars and people in this lively tourist area, the outside deck area will serve your desire very well.
The staff gave me a very warm welcome with a polite greeting and a big smile. Their service was also very satisfying; quick and professional. From my conversation with the branch manager, all the staff is very well trained to meet the standard under the concept “Good Food, Great Service, Excellent Coffee.”
Even though The Coffee Club has a name which somehow reminds people of just a coffee shop, it actually provides various types of foods and beverages. From the morning till late at night, you may order foods, bakery snacks, coffee, non-alcoholic beverages, and alcoholic drinks such as beer, wine and cocktails. Whatever fits your needs and cravings, you will find it here. The place truly fits the definition of a great Café-Bar-Restaurant.
Some may get the feeling that the modern style of this Café-Bar-Restaurant may be expensive, but it is actually very affordable. You can get a cup of coffee or a non-alcoholic drink for only 80-100 Baht; and the average cost for a plate of food is around 100-200 Baht, except for some special dishes that will cost more but also are worth it.
Now let’s take a look at some recommended items on the menu. I’ll start with the 2 special blends here, iced coffee and iced chocolate. They are both very special because The Coffee Club only uses imported premium grade coffee beans and cocoa beans. Besides, a special scoop of vanilla ice cream is put in each drink, and then the special blend is topped up with fluffy whipped cream. It’s no surprise that both of them give such a perfect special “smooth” feeling on you tongue.
Or if you are a big fan of hot coffee, I recommend The Coffee Club’s special cappuccino blends. This time I chose “Melloccino” or cappuccino + marsh mellow which has such a perfect combination between the very smooth cream and marsh mellow that goes very well with such great tasting coffee.
Or if you look for other beverages, The Coffee Club provides various types of non-alcoholic drinks. As now is the mango season, I wouldn’t miss this recommended spectacular “Mango Frappe”.
Now let’s move to the special recommended “must try” food dishesof The Coffee Club. They are also the Chef’s Choice dishes which are changed every 4 months and unique to Thailand only.
Here is the classic Spanish-style breakfast called “Spanish Potato Hash”. It’s such a fine combination of stir-fried potatoes in butter and smoked Chorizo sausages, served with a soft and smooth poached egg and garlic toasts.
This good looking dish, “Watermelon and Feta Salad”, is such a very fine mixture of European and Thai food. Juicy sweet slices of watermelon are topped with Greece’s famous Feta cheese, sour black olives, prawns, red onions, kitchen mint, green rocket, parsley, and special spicy-sweet and sour sauce. The dish is absolutely great and very tasty.
This gorgeous dish is “Barramundi Asian Coleslaw” which is a nice big piece of grilled barramundi topped with various Asian vegetables and Asian style sweet and sour sauce. It’s perfectly fresh, smooth and absolutely delicious! The price is not even as high as in a five star hotel; only 450 Baht.
I personally love this last Chef’s Choice dish which is “Chicken Burger with Chilli Sauce”. Of course, it’s not just another chicken burger you can find around Chiang Mai city. Two tender chicken breast pieces topped with special mild spicy and sour chilli paste served with homemade burger buns and fresh vegetables. Also, there are fresh French fries and some additional seasonings on the side. The dish is totally unique and fantastic!
As I mentioned above that The Coffee Club serves all your cravings, even delicious bakery products. This “Chocolate Mud Cake” is absolutely special. Believe me, the moist chocolate cake with sticky and smooth fudge that will melt in your mouth is such a heavenly sensation!
After about 2 hours of enjoying those quality dishes and drinks, together with such a nice atmosphere of The Coffee Club and great service, I do not hesitate to say that The Coffee Club is absolutely suitable for anyone. You can enjoy some coffee time with your friends or have a great quality meal with your family at any time.
With the slogan “Where will I meet you”, The Coffee Club is the “club” for anyone indeed!
