It may have taken a while to choose the best French restaurant, but I’ve finally found the ideal French cuisine dining experience in Chiang Mai! The Chef, who is Mr. Somchai, started his cooking career long ago, which can be felt and seen at Le Crystal Restaurant. He will create the best combination of food and drinks to best serve you!
Le Crystal Restaurant is conveniently located on the bank of the Ping River, and is perfectly suited for various events such as birthdays, wedding receptions or any other party you can imagine. This restaurant is not your classic French brasserie, but more a contemporary version that serves a different menu dictated by seasons (and seasonal foods).
Though varied in tastes, each dish I will describe below did have one important facet in common: each was completely sensational! The First dish spotlighted is the Hida Beef Carpaccio with Rocket Salad and Truffle Slices. The beef is imported from Takayama, Japan and delicately topped with the truffle mushrooms, truffle mushroom oil, olives, pink Himalayan salt and a light rocket salad. The Hida beef is the specific name given to beef from black-haired Japanese cattle that have been raised in Gifu Prefecture for at least 14 months. This dish will be enjoyed from the very first bite: from the tender, juicy beef to the nicely paired morsels of savory mushrooms.
The second dish to get you salivating is The Mushroom Ravioli with Lobster Stock. Typically, lobster soup is always creamy and buttery, but this dish is consommé, clear and made from scratch. It is a flawless fit for the Porcini mushroom stuffed ravioli. Moreover, the aroma the mushrooms emanate will meet your senses as soon as the plate hits the table.
The Poached Sole “Veronique” in White Wine Sauce is the next dish on our featured list. The Sole comes served with white grapes and potatoes, having a balanced texture you cannot begin to imagine. The white grapes with the cream sauce made with Martini; and the potatoes are as tender as ever as well. If you are craving the best dish (in my humble opinion) this Poached Sole could be the answer you are looking for!
It’d be weird if I told you about so many amazing French dishes without even a mention of dessert, so we continue. Caramelized Bavarian with Calvados Reduction is the dessert for us today. Though technically considered a creamy mousse, this texture is more like cheesecake, topped with a honeycomb crumbs, and also served with calvados vanilla sauce and fruits such as apple, orange and kiwi.
Now, how would you like to try these grand French dishes after your long day of work? Initially, I thought to be selfish and keep my secret French cuisine to myself, but the chef deserves my utmost praise and everyone deserves a fantastic meal, right? AND, I just love sharing great meals with you guys, period. There is no doubt about the quality of Le Crystal, proof is in the Best Restaurant Award by Thailand Tatler Magazine for the ninth consecutive years, but go out and try it for yourself and tell me what you think! Bon appetite!
