Some people don’t fully understand the point of the “buffet”–believing it to be the type of restaurant that you can gorge on as much as you can fit in your gullet. I disagree wholeheartedly. The buffet was born from the necessity to enjoy many dishes, many cuisines in a moment’s time, a little bit of everything without getting bored of the food in front of you. Today we will explore the premium buffet options in the hotels throughout Chiang Mai. Bring your appetite and let’s try it all!
As we all suspect, the food in hotels are not usually palatable because the focus is generally centered on attentive service not food; and when the hotel is too far from other restaurants, guests are often conveniently left with no other choice. I was pleasantly surprised to find some premium buffets in Chiang Mai that don’t fit this assumption, so on we venture to the 8 fantastic buffets that are must try-s!!
The first hotel we’ll begin sampling the faire is The Empress. Here you will find a great buffet at only 300 TB per person! I still remember the moment I walked in and said, “What the f*%#,” because there are more than 100 menus and each looks so dainty! I have tried almost all the food and it’s pretty delicious and definitely worth the bang for you baht. Also you can pick the meat and ask them to cook it like you have your own chef–it’s that easy! Now just go and try for yourself, I think you guys will enjoy it too!
Surf & Turf Seafood Buffet with the Japanese Corner, is of course a paradise for someone who loves seafood and Japanese food, naturally! You can eat all the fresh seafood and sushi or whichever faire you choose in the moment.
Now, normally I would be a tad skittish when it comes to eating seafood in a buffet but rest assured: this place offers the freshest choices of seafood and meat from a sprawling menu at that. Only 699 TB per person for this seafood extravaganza.
Dusit D2 Seafood
Continuing in the vein of seafood, every night is a seafood feast at the buffet at Dusit D2 Hotel (except Fridays–closed). As you can see from the photo, there are numerous seafood options for you to try and a giant bakery selection to boot! Here you’ll find cakes, mousse and bread which is just as exquisite as your main course of seafood. Cheese and cold cuts are also very fresh; the focus and passion is clearly evident here at Dusit D2 Seafood’s delightful buffet.
No matter the extensive variety that is found in buffets, sometimes we will still want to stick to a specific category and in enters the Dimsum buffet! Dusit Princess has an incredible Dimsum buffet that will only put you back 399 TB per person. This place is nicely equipped with more than 20 menus, for example check out the Shumai which is generally softer but equally tasty or the porn bun that feels like you’ve been transported to a “real” Chinese restaurant!
Next time you get a hankering for some Dimsum, check out Dusit Princess at this great hotel and spice up your buffet options.
Looking at the picture, you will immediately recognize that Duangtawan is a Japanese buffet which is also beautifully portioned. The thing that makes this place very different than other Japanese buffets is the UNAGI–a common expression used for sushi containing eel and cucumber. I’m sure not many place have this because of the price, so if you are a HUGE FAN of UNAGI there is no doubt to get down here and eat as much as you want!
Slee Banyan Night Buffet definitely has charisma and uniqueness for being a luxury Lanna style. Everything is very impressive as you walk into this new place. This place is suitable for foreigners in my opinion because you guys will have a great experience with so many foods from many cuisines you are already accustomed to: tacos, nachos, pizza, a lot of Thai foods and Japanese or if you want pasta, they have the Pasta Zone for you to order as you go. There is no wonder why this place has so many customers everyday.
I have no idea why every hotel seems to always have a Japanese buffet, so I tried to figure out. . .my answer is that Japanese cuisine must be a sure favorite for people in hotels! Ha! I joke, but the Japanese buffet Shangri-la has amazing seafood for you!. The food is super duper fresh and the crab is soft and great for any person who is crazy for seafood. I guarantee that if you guys really love seafood you will never be upset coming here.
Come to the last but not least with the Four Seasons Resort in Chiang Mai. The incredible atmosphere in this grand hotel is unlike I’ve ever seen in Chiang Mai! I recently had a chance to taste the delicious food last week. First, I wondered where all of the food was in this buffet, it seemed barren. After talking to the staff, I learned this to be an a la carte buffet, meaning that in order to ensure what guests enjoy is as fresh as possible and will be cooked upon ordering. The relaxing Sunday lunch I enjoyed has 4 amazing dishes which are Roasted Pork spare ribs (that are so soft like I never had before), Lamp Rack (that is pretty good served with some tomatoes gratin), Herb Crusted Salmon Fillet (that is soft and yummy served with potatoes) and Red Wine Risotto (that is really impressed from how tasty it is). All of the dishes are very delicious and the highlight of this place is the unlimited martinis, beers and wines! Ooooh, this is the place for everyone!! by only 2,000 baht with free-flow wines and martinis or 1,500 without **the price is subject to tax and service charge, total 17.7%**
I hope from this starter list of amazing buffets in Chiang Mai, you can also get out there and have some amazing experiences, just as I was able to. You won’t quite know the cuisine you are in the mood for until the moment has arrived. Remember as I had said before, don’t let people lead you to believe that buffet food is trash only there to fill your gut, but is a great option for you to taste and try so many different things during the same meal. Give it a whirl.
