Wat Gate Khar Rnam Museum A special mention has to be made before we leave Chiang Mai. On Saturday we decided to cross over to the east bank of the river Mae Nam Ping. Really it was just to have a look, our guides did not mention anything special... On the other side we walked up Thanon Chiang Mai-Lamphun and came across a small sign for the Wat Gate Knar Rnam Museum. A note outside stated that the Wat was the spiritual centre for the Chinese in Chiang Mai. Inside it was peaceful and quiet and the museum was well indicated. We wandered across, more to have a look in the door rather than enter, and were enthusiastically greeted by an old man who encouraged us to enter the free museum... I think the pictures speak for themselves... Why this place is not mentioned in either Lonely Planet or The Rough Guide we do not know... We felt obliged to make a donation to this incredible museum and the Wat. A real gem!
