Chiang Mai is the center of a rich agricultural region, with rice, garlic and other staple crops grown in the wide flat valleys, while the mountains produce cool-weather crops like cabbage, carrots and even strawberries. All this produce can be seen in abundance at any of Chiang Mai's traditional fresh markets. The Somphet Market in the old city is a good place to see fresh herbs and spices, amazing fruits and maybe even frogs. The market is a natural stop on any walking tour, and is about halfway between the Tapae gate and Wat Chiang Man.
