Annually, Mae Hong Son holds the Poi Sang Long, Buddhist novice ordination ceremonies, to conserve its precious Thai Yai traditions. On 31st March, a ceremony of accepting the sang long for ordination will be held at Hua Wiang temple. On 1 April, the Poi Sang Long Procession, a spectacular novice ordination ceremony of Thai Yai people, will parade around the province. On 2nd April, the real novice ordination ceremony will be held at Hua Wiang Temple again. The ceremony can be observed elsewhere in the province as well, especially in large communities.
