most charming of all Thai festivals; the custom of placing handmade floats decorated with flowers and candles on waterways goes back over 700 years to Sukhothai period. In the north “Yee Peng” is celebrated for two nights under the full moon. Mae Ping River
24th - 25th November On 24th November, there will be a parade of light and sound boats on the Ping River. Citylife recommends you head for the Municipality office near the U.S. Consulate to see the parade. The Municipality office will also organise a big kratong parade contest on 25th November and a kom yi-peng contest on 24th November. All activities will be held during 6 p.m. to midnight every day. During 24th - 25th, visitors will also see an array of fireworks in the skies and traditional Lanna kratong in the river from 9 p.m. to midnight. There will also be competitions of local water sports such as diving, boat racing and more in the Ping River from 9 a.m. onwards.

Due to the period of Yi Peng Festival, JJ market together with Ajarn Benjapon Sittipraneet (Kru Mee) is accompanying to organise the khom kwan (hanging lamp). The exhibition will be held at the Good Taste area at JJ Market.
