Just behind Thapae Gate, 1.5 km Rachadamnoen Rd. (traffic-free on Sunday evenings) turns to be a crowded and busy walking street known to locals as “Sunday Market” The Market is the best known walking street in Chiang Mai and the biggest handicraft center throughout the northern region.
Over thousands of stalls, people from all walks of life spend their happy hour shopping for unique items such as Lanna Thai-style clothes, home-decorative products, fine quality handicrafts as well as souvenirs and local delicacies from hawkers: northern-style and exotic food.
The market opens on every Sunday evening from around 5 pm until late mid-night. For visitors who are interested in the Thai ways of life, the market is just the right spot to observe and a must place to visit.
